Everything drivers need to know about Polestar’s electric vehicle lineup

Polestar is one of the new disruptors in the electric vehicle (EV) space. Owned by Volvo-parent company Geely, it aims to combine high-tech features and sports car driving dynamics with a modern Swedish look. Polestar was purchased by Volvo and Geely in 2017 to become its standalone electric sports car brand. Beginning with the Polestar 1 sports plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), Polestar has since gone fully electric as it plans to have a five-model lineup by 2026.

Charging Polestar electric vehicles

For Level 2 charging, Polestar EVs use the industry standard SAE J1772 connector in North America while DC fast charging can be done using the CCS Combo port located on the driver’s side rear quarter panel. All Polestar EVs and PHEVs have a charge rate of 11 kW making a home charger like the JuiceBox 48 the perfect home charging solution for max speeds at an affordable price. Polestar will transition its EVs to utilize the North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector, being standardize by SAE as J3400 for Level 2 and DC fast charging beginning in 2025. This means all Polestar EVs will come standard with that connector from 2025 onward while an SAE J3400 to CCS Combo adapter will be made available to owners of pre-2025 model year Polestar models.
