eMotorWerks has deployed over 6,000 JuiceNet-enabled level 2 charging stations across California that make up a 30MW of the so called virtual battery. The company delivers grid services, such as demand response capacity, by managing the chargers through the cloud based JuiceNet platform. These connected devices receive signals from the grid operators and can delay charging schedules, taking into account drivers’ preferences. Owners of charging stations earn compensation for taking part in demand response programs, up to $80 per year, but the number is growing with the expansion of the program.

Smart home charging stations not only can make money for their owners, but may drive down infrastructure costs, improve grid flexibility and reduce GHG.
